Abstract
An imminent catastrophe is brewing owing to a lack of clean water caused by fast urbanization and industry expansion and the relentless pumping of underground aquifer. To meet the rising need, scientists have developed a wide variety of ways to get potable water, one of the cheapest being solar distillation utilizing a solar- based still. Every side is equally accessible to the sun's incoming radiation for the double slope (DSl) as well as triangular pyramid (TPy) kind of solar stills. In this study, a latent heat storage material (LHSM) was added to the bottom of the absorber in ordinary DSl and TPy solar stills, and the resulting effects was examined and compared to that of ordinary stills that don't use LHSM. Investigations were carried out in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, under normal weather conditions with a constant basin water level of 30 mm. The inclusion of LHSM, in this case paraffin, improved the stills' performance considerably, as seen by the findings. Yet, TPy still with LHSM exhibited the most outstanding results.
