Abstract

When speaking about composite construction it has to be mentioned that because of the development directions that governs the construction work, composite elements are used together with steel elements and with reinforced concrete elements, for obtaining hybrid structures made by steel and concrete. A composite wall is made by a reinforced concrete wall with additional steel encased shapes or plates. These elements, as the traditional reinforced concrete walls are used in structures subjected to combined vertical and horizontal loads. Walls with additional shapes referred to as composite steel-concrete shear walls, contain one or more encased steel shapes, usually located at the ends of the wall.
