Abstract

In this work, two patterns of cavity arrangement, inline pattern and triangular pattern, with various cavity spacing were experimental studied on a silicon heated surface with micro-machined triple artificial cavities at low heat flux range in pool boiling. It aims to investigate the effects of cavity arrangement on the characteristics of pool boiling. The results indicate that both cavity spacing and cavity pattern potentially influence nucleate pool boiling characteristics such as bubble departure frequency, bubble departure diameter and temperature distribution on heated surface. Furthermore, it revealed that inline pattern with the optimum cavity spacing without horizontal bubble coalescence can enhance a heat transfer characteristic better than triangular pattern at the same cavity spacing.
