Abstract

Abstract: One of the most common materials for pavement applications is pre-cast concrete paver blocks. However, they need a lot of cement, which is expensive and harmful to the environment. Cement is the main ingredient in any concrete mix, but its production and transportation costs are high. Moreover, it causes air pollution when produced on a large scale. Therefore, there is a need to find an alternative or substitute for cement industry. This study explores the possibility of using 30% granite powder by weight instead of cement in paver block production. Granite powder is a waste material from the granite industry in India, which produces more than 3500 cubic meters of it every day. The granite polishing process also generates tons of granite dust, which is not used and disposed on the land. This creates environmental and health problems due to its high alkalinity and air pollution. It also occupies a lot of land space for disposal.
