Abstract

The ferrite/austenite equilibrium in the ternary FeCrMn system is investigated experimentally by measuring the alloy content of the individual phases of equilibrated two-phase specimens using a microprobe. The experimental tie-lines obtained at five different temperatures between 750° and 950°C are analysed in terms of a thermodynamic model. This analysis is done by using a computerized mathematical optimization procedure which allows for any functional relationship between the experimental data and the optimized quantities. Experimental as well as calculated tie-lines are presented. The agreement is almost what can be expected if random experimental errors are predominant.
