Abstract

Data in the literature on the effect of ionophore A23187 on the cardiodynamics and hemodynamics are few in number and largely debatable. It has been shown that addition of ionophore A23187 to the nutrient solution leads to an increase in the force of contractions of the isolated atrium [2, 4, 5, 7]. It is suggested that this effect is due to increased release of calcium ions from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and an increase in the transmembrane flow of calcium ions [5, 9-11]. However, in several investigations a positive ionotropic action has not been observed following administration of ionophore A23187 [13, 15].
