Abstract

Abstract Ternary distillation of a methanol/isopropanol/water mixture was studied in a 0.1-m diameter column with SULZER-CY packing. The experimental data have been compared with results from the multicomponent mass transfer model of Krishna and Standart. The influence of model simplifications and the accuracy of the model parameters have been studied. Finally, the suitability of simple mass transfer models for predicting concentration profiles in packed columns was looked into.
