Abstract

The results of an experimental investigation of electrostatic ion waves in an rf-generated argon plasma supported by a longitudinal magnetic field is presented. For off-axis wave propagation, observations agree quite well with the theoretical predictions of Joyce and Dory. Observations for parallel propagation, however, yield a dispersion curve exhibiting structure not predicted by linear theory.
