Abstract

The body force induced by Dielectric-Barrier-Discharge (DBD) plasma actuation in quiescent air is studied based on Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) for DBD application purpose. The total body force and its distribution are calculated by momentum balance equations and Navier-Stokes equations, respectively, while the pressure contributions are neglected. Three control volumes of different sizes are employed and the resulting body forces are compared. A parametric study on body force is conducted for the carrier frequency ranging from 10 kHz to 45 kHz at the peak-peak voltage of 12kV. The two dimensional flow assumption is discussed by the verifications of the mass conservation and the stereoscopic PIV.
