Abstract

Removal of hydrogen sulfide from waste and energy-rich gases is required not only because of environmental health and safety reasons, but also because of operational reasons. Biotrickling filter is one of the most promising clean technologies for removing H2S. This study attempted to remove H2S in biogas using a laboratory-scale biotrickling filter. The performance and the influence caused by different concentrations of pH, CODCr, sulfate, external nitrate source in the nutrient solution were systematically analyzed. Optimal operating conditions were obtained by the following: pH 2.0~8.0, COD 400~500mg/L, cumulative sulfate concentration 250mg/L, external nitrogen concentration 7.5mg /L.
