Abstract
Overclocking the operation frequency of a CPU could improve a processor’s performance. However, this may cause hindrance to heating issues. In this study, a two-phase immersion cooling (2PIC) system using 3M Novec 7100 engineered fluid was applied on a personal computer (PC) and a 2U server operated at an overclocked frequency of 5.0 GHz. The experimental results indicated that the heat transfer efficiency had been improved by attaching the Al heat sink and evaporator to the CPU. The temperature of the CPU in the 2PIC system was lower than that of a forced-air convection cooling system. The 2PIC system had an energy savings of up to 24% and shows the potential of turbo boost technology for computer and communication-related industries.
