Abstract

In the present work, the performances a hybrid system of air conditioning coupled with the distillate water production unit was experimentally investigated under the Egyptian conditions. The present experimental work aims to achieve the conditions of human thermal comfort, fresh water production and energy saving. The proposed system consists from desiccant air conditioning assisted by the solar energy to achieve the conditions of human thermal comfort, as well as, the external condenser used to condensed the water vapor content in regeneration air out from the reactivation section of rotary desiccant wheel to produce the freshwater. The results of the present experimental study presented that within the period 9:30 a.m. till 5:30 p.m.; (i) the supply cooling air temperatures various between 18.4 – 20.6 °C and 21.6 – 23.6 °C with increase the process air flow rate from 60 – 240 m3/h (ii) cooling load varied between 333.66 – 470.34 Wand 1077.36 – 1575.84 W with increase the process air flow rate from 60 – 240 m3/h, (iii) the cooling coefficient of performance varied between 0.332 – 0.917, and 0.941 – 2.531 with increase the process air flow rate from 60 – 240 m3/h, (iv) increase the process air flow rate from 60 – 240 m3/h increases the daily distillate water productivity from 2.09 to 4.43 l/day, (v) overall coefficient of performance varied between 0.475 – 1.21 and 1.307 – 2.956 with increase the process air flow rate from 60 – 240 m3/h.
