Abstract

Noise measurements as a function of remanent state have been made along the two principal remanence curves for particulate recording media. Total noise measurements are discussed in relation to VSM measurements of the remanent characteristics. Measurements for a commercial Co modified γ-Fe 2O 3 sample and a duplicating γ-Fe 2 3 sample are compared. The data are shown to be sensitive to the degree of aggregation within the medium. Observable differences between remanence curves and between tape samples are shown to reflect their respective magnetic and physical microstructures.
