Due to its excellent ductility property, metal laminates have been inserted in fiber reinforced polymer to improve impact resistance. In this paper, two woven carbon layers, stainless steel and aluminum alloy wire net are inserted into the middle of 14 woven carbon layers with the same increment in thickness to enhance the laminates. Low-velocity impact tests and damage inspections are conducted to analyze the strengthening mechanisms. After comparing the response history and damage morphology of various panels, it is found that the additional metal wire net could improve the ductility of panels, and then promote the performance in the low-velocity impact events. This is because the ductility metal wire net could absorb and transfer more impact energy to the area around the impact point.
