Abstract

Measurements of electron capture by slow multiply charged ions in collisions with atomic hydrogen are described. Translational energy spectroscopy is carried out using a tungsten tube furnace to provide a target of highly dissociated hydrogen. Results for C 3+ in H obtained using a conventional ion source and for Ar 4+, Ar 5+ and Ar 6+ in H obtained using a recently developed recoil ion source are considered in terms of available theory.
