Abstract
During the period of LEP running, the precision of determinations of the strong coupling, α s ( M Z ), has improved from ~ 10% to ~ 2–3%. The contribution made by measurements of α s using the data recorded at LEP, together with progress in theoretical calculations, is reviewed. Consistent results are obtained using a variety of different techniques.
