Abstract

Several studies to develop effective male antifertility drugs are currently underway. Ethylene dimethanesulphonate is a reversible sterilant in rats but not in mice. Alpha-chlorohydrin is also effective in small doses in the rat but mice remain resistant. The mode of action of these and related chemicals is not completely known. Studies are currently underway to elucidate the decapacitation factors which seem to occur in the epididymis and the capacitation factors which are present in the female reproductive tract in the effort toward development of effective male sterilization.
