Abstract

The insulation performance of wet wrapping of terminal service box pipework is investigated by the Paschen discharge test in this study. The test mock-up was designed with a U-shaped pipework as the fundamental structure, consisting of insulator breaks, voltage taps, and high voltage wires. In addition, the design of the test mock-up and insulation structure is studied, and the investigation method used in this study is described in detail. A high voltage test was conducted at room temperature for various degrees of vacuum. The test results demonstrated that the insulation (wet wrapping) remains undamaged, and leakage current is less than 10 μA. Further, the test results conformed to the requirements of the ITER Organization. Finally, the performance of the insulation was determined, and the feasibility of the wet wrapping process was verified indirectly.
