Abstract

In this research paper, drinking water was used as dielectric fluid and Ti-6Al-4V alloy was machined on EDM. The process parameters were discharge current, pulse on time, pulse off time and graphite powder concentration. The graphite powder concentration was 4.5 g/l, 9 g/l and 13.5 g/l were mixed in drinking water. Experiments were carried out based on Taguchi L27 orthogonal array. Individual significant process parameters were evaluated by the analysis of variance (ANOVA). The material removal rate, surface roughness and recast layer thickness were optimized by Taguchi methodology. The maximum material removal rate was 10.567 mm3/min at 4.5 g/l. The low surface roughness was 2.31 µm and recast layer thickness was 8.42 µm both were found at 9 g/l. EDAX Analysis and micro hardness test were also carried out.
