Abstract

The PCBN tools has extensive applications in machining of various ferrous materials. The welding process is the necessary step to connect the PCBN tool nose and cemented carbide tool body. This paper conducted a series of welding experiments between PCBN and cemented carbide, the effect of filler alloy, surface treatment and heating parameters on the shearing strength has been tested and analyzed. The results showed that the addition of active element In in filler alloy can increase the shearing strength by 19.9%, and the side and bottom surface polishing treatment can increase the shearing strength by 124.1% and 96.8%. The adequate heating temperature and time to ensure full chemical metallurgical reaction is significant to obtain the higher shearing strength. At finally, the optimal welding parameters were used in PCBN tool application to improve the welding strength.
