Abstract
The thermal plume in large space is a natural convection generated by density difference which caused by high temperature. In this paper, the point heat source thermal plume produced by the heat source with three different electric power was analyzed. Lawn lamp was used as the study subject in experiment as well as the two-dimensional particle image velocimetry (PIV) was performed to collect the thermal plume image above the lamp, moreover, the flow field and velocity field distribution of the plume were analyzed by the original image, velocity graph and velocity trajectory. The results showed that the images captured by as tracer particles (the mixture of glycerin mist particles and smoke particles) could effectively reflect and analyze the thermal plume. The experimental results showed that the thermal plume and the ambient air existed the phenomenon of entrainment, and this phenomenon of entrainment would become more evident with the increase of the heat source electric power. At the same horizontal height, the velocity distribution at the same distance away from the plume center was similar to the Gaussian distribution.
