Abstract

The future power generation, substation and other stations tend to be intelligent. The corresponding power communication system plays a decisive role in the intelligentization of the electrical system. This article proposes a kind of access network physical layer structure based on visible light communication (VLC) and power line carrier (PLC) technology. It can solve the problem of interference attenuation of radio frequency (RF) signal in the electromagnetic sensitive power plants and substations. The scheme avoids the shortcomings of laying communication support network which needs a large scale of cable and costs a lot. Firstly, this paper will describe the proposed model framework and the module design. Then, through the design of field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based software modules and other hardware modules, the power line carrier technology and the visible light communication technology are combined to demonstrate the feasibility of the scheme through experiments. It also can be used as a factory site positioning function. And the VLC system can transmit real-time video, voice, plant data and other signals to support the entire plant communication. It will become a safe, efficient and stable new direction for the development of power communications.
