Abstract

Configuration (position and orientation) control is an important issue in the micromanipulation of cells. A non-contact method based on micro-fluid for cell configuration control is presented in this paper. A cell is positioned by the balanced pressure of a pair of lined micro-fluids from two tiny tubes. The orientation control is achieved by rotating the cell in a swirl caused by a pair of parallel opposite micro-fluids from the two tubes. With fluctuant micro-fluids generated by pulsating jetting, cell orientation can be controlled more precisely. The method is valid for cells of different shapes and sizes. The effectiveness of the proposed non-contact method for cell configuration control was verified by experiments.
