The problem of peripheral nerve injuries and their repair has been of great concern to those practicing medicine since the times of Galen (130–200 A. D.) and Paul of Aegina (seventh century A. D.) [1, 2] and continues to be so in our era of modern microsurgical techniques [3, 4].
