Abstract

This work presents the design and the realization of an autonomous small scale brackish water reverse osmosis desalination unit powered by intermittent renewable energy source. Sizing of motor-pumps, desalination membrane, renewable energy source and measuring instruments is detailed and analyzed. Motor-pumps characterization allowed to study their performances for several operating points according to electrical power supplied and to analyze electrical, mechanical and hydraulic power flux. Realization of this experimental test-bench offers the opportunity to develop solutions for electrical power flux control and management in order to increase desalinated water production and enhance desalination unit efficiency.
