Abstract

Twenty-one selected high school sophomores successfully learned some of the technical aspects of computer programming in Chula Vista, California during the summer of 1962 in an experimental course entitled “Computer Programming for High School Sophomores.” The students learned to break down problems into a technical list of detailed instructions that were applicable to the UNIVAC 80. The summer course involved two hours of daily instruction for six weeks at Chula Vista High School, and was supplemented by laboratory work on the UNIVAC 80 at Rohr Corporation.
