Abstract

The ASDEX Upgrade tokamak has recently been equipped with a new filament probe for filament studies. The probe features a set of radially separated Langmuir pins which are suited for measuring the radial propagation velocity of impinging filaments. A series of type-I ELMy H-mode discharges has been analysed, and the radial propagation velocity, size and density of 466 filaments have been derived at different distances from the separatrix. Mean radial velocity, size and density have been derived and various parameter dependences have been studied with respect to different models for filament propagation. The radial evolution and density decay have also been investigated.
