Abstract

The goat proved to be susceptible to infection with mycetoma organisms. Repeated subcutaneous inoculation of goats with Actinomadura madurae, Nocardia brasiliensis and Actinomadura pelletieri resulted in local lesions. A. pelletieri was the most virulent strain and produced chronic sinuses which discharged numerous grains. Humoral antibodies were demonstrated by counterimmunoelectrophoresis. The administration of a corticosteroid produced slightly larger and more persistent lesions.
