Abstract

A new method is developed and tested for measuring vertical migration behavior by zooplankton in the field by means of acrylic columns with conical traps. Migration behavior in columns by different species and by different individuals of the same species is similar to migration behavior in the lake. We further show that acclimation to light intensity can be a factor in determining the amplitude of vertical migration in Daphnia pulicaria.
