Abstract

Processing of ferrous slags with low vanadium content by pyrometallurgical processes represents one possibility for the simultaneous production of a ferrovanadium alloy and saleable slag for the building material industry. Besides the thermodynamic calculations, different experiments have to be carried out to investigate this process route that consists of an enrichment of V2O5 in the slag and a following aluminothermic reduction step to produce a ferrovanadium alloy that can be used in the steel industry. Different parameters like reduction time, stirring and slag ratio were investigated at the Institute of Nonferrous Metallurgy at the University of Leoben.
