Abstract

Cereal grains like pea & lentil split are the principal component of human diet in Ethiopia. But the separation process is very exhaustive and disturbing for the environment since it is used traditional separation. To design an effective separator machine, experimental testing is carried out in a cyclone with body diameter of 0.25 m to determine the efficiency of pea & lentil split grain-chaff separation and cleaning. The average speed of inlet air used for better separation minimizing grain loss is measured using Mini Digital Anemometer at different speed of fan motor by controlling motor speed controller device. In this test, the average air speed of 10.3 m/s and 9.4 m/s are measured for better separation with separation efficiency of 99.03 % & 99.37 % and cleaning efficiency of 99.02 % & 99.07 % for pea and lentil split chaff separation respectively within 1 % of loss.
