Abstract
The accurate calculation of the flow resistance of the fuel assembly is crucial for the design and development of the advanced reactors, spent fuel pools, and spent fuel storage facilities. A low-Re experiment was carried out to measure the flow resistance of a full-size AFA3G 17 × 17 fuel assembly. The present experimental data shows that the prediction error of the Cheng-Todreas correlation is large in the laminar and the transition regime. Hence, a modified Cheng-Todreas correlation is proposed based on the present experimental data to improve its prediction accuracy. In addition, the modified Cheng-Todreas correlation is compared with the experimental results in the literature, and the results proved that the modified Cheng-Todreas correlation does reduce the prediction error compared to the original model.
