Abstract

In recent days a great many experimental investigations have been made of the effect of the gas-dynamlc conditions of the mixing of the working and auxiliary gases on the inverse population of molecules of the working gas. These investigations have confirmed the theoretical conclusion of [i] with respect to the possibility of obtaining a higher degree of inversion with the mixing of carbon dioxide into a flow of thermally excited auxiliary gas (nitrogen) expanding in a nozzle, compared with the expansion of a previously prepared mixture. In actuality, in [2, 3]j with the introduction of carbon dioxide and helium into nitrogen heated to a temperature To = 3000~ an amplification coefficient of a small signal k~ = 3 m -~ is achieved.
