Abstract

The band associated with the Cs(6S-5D5/2,m=1/2) transition in the presence of rare-gas perturbers (Ne to Xe) is studied by a sensitive absorption technique. The quasi-static interpretation of the temperature dependence of the band profile gives information about the upper potential curves and the oscillator strength of the collision-induced transition. The comparison with both the available theoretical results and the experimental data previously obtained for the 6S-7S transition appears useful for improving the calculation of the interaction potentials.
