Abstract

Results are presented for complex investigations of the strength and deformation properties of soils in the foundation bed of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater, which were conducted with plates and the testing of piles cast in predrilled holes. The procedure employed for the investigations is described. Piles injected into predrilled holes and their segments are tested to determine the friction along the lateral surface within the limits of bed sections that are, and are not prone to slump-type settlement. Actual compressive strengths are obtained for the bed soils along the lower surface of the piles, and also the resistance along the lateral surface.
