Abstract

In this paper, transmission characteristics (|S 21 |) for a split ring resonator (SRR) type unit cell and for SRR arrays with various dimensions and array sizes are investigated in a comparative manner to show the effects of array dimensions and array sizes on the |S 21 | spectra. For this purpose, SRR based metamaterial arrays with various dimensions and sizes are fabricated and their |S 21 | characteristics are measured by Agilent 8720D network analyzer. These measurement results are compared with the simulation results obtained from the Agilent's HFSS software. As a result, it is shown that the depth of the transmission minimum and the bandwidth of the stop-band both increase with increasing array dimensions and array sizes. Also, the resonance frequency shifts either towards the lower frequencies or towards the higher frequencies depending upon the dimension at which the array size (number of array elements) is increased.
