Abstract

Electric discharge machine (EDM) has wide applications in automotive, biomedical, aerospace and manufacturing industries. EDM has been acknowledged for machining of biomaterials as it has many advantages over other techniques. Graphite was used as electrode and stainless steel 316L as the workpiece. The parametric study has been carried out by varying current (Im), servo voltage (Vs) and pulse on time (Ton), whereas pulse off time (Toff) was taken as constant. Their effect on material removal rate (MRR) was studied. Taguchi method was applied to calculate maximum MRR, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to identify the most significant factor.
