Abstract

SYNOPSIS This paper reports an experimental investigation on free convection in an open ended rectangular inclined channel heated from the top with a uniform heat flux. The experimental set-up was 1 m wide and 1.5 m long. The air gap could be increased up to 19 cm and the tilt angle from horizontal to vertical. Experiments were conducted by considering three heat fluxes, two air gaps and five tilt angles. Data analysis was done under steady state conditions. Nusselt number and induced mass flow rate, expressed in the form of Reynolds number, as a function of Rayleigh number, tilt angle and aspect ratio defined as the ratio between the air gap distance and the length are elaborated.
