Abstract

Power transients induced by wavelength-division-multiplexing channel interactions due to stimulated Raman scattering in the transmission fiber degrade the performance of transparent optical networks if several channels are added or deactivated simultaneously. Compensation of Raman transients could be demonstrated experimentally using a tilt filter with variable slope and flat attenuation and a fast control loop.
