Abstract

In this study the result of model tests conducted on passive pile embedded in loose sand behind the retaining wall. The parameters varied are distance between pile and sheet pile wall, number of piles, pile group configuration, stiffness of pile. It is observed that deflection of single pile is more than the deflection of pile group for the ratio L/D=20. Also, the deflection of axially loaded pile group is more than the deflection of pile group for the same ratio L/D=20. It is observed that the pile head deflection increases as the distance from the retaining wall decreases and the excavation depth increases. Design charts will be plotted for the prototype piles which will be useful in the construction field
