Abstract

The 450 °C and 600 °C isothermal sections of the Zn–Fe–La system were experimentally constructed. The key alloys were analyzed by X-ray power diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy equipped with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer. 12 and 10 three-phase regions were identified at 450 °C and 600 °C sections, respectively. No ternary compound was found. La can not dissolve into all the Zn–Fe binary compounds and the solubilities of Fe in all the Zn–La binary phases were limited. All the Zn–Fe compounds can equilibrate with LaZn13 and all the La–Zn compounds (except LaZn13) can equilibrate with the α-Fe phase. Moreover, the La–Zn system was assessed and revised. Thermodynamic extrapolation of the Zn–Fe–La system was carried out and showed good agreement with detected phase relationships.
