Abstract
The usage of advanced smart materials in the field of automobile and aeronautical applications is an evergreen and plays a prominent role in development of new products. The components which we manufacture and assemble should consist of excellent mechanical, micro structural and tribological properties. The present research work is extensively focused to develop a layered composed material to survive in harsh environmental conditions. Multi layered composite specimens are needed to be synthesized in which the Al 356 as the base matrix metal and the reinforcements as silicon carbide (SiC) and nickel(Ni) and are taken in powdered form to ensure powder metallurgy technique. The compaction process is facilitated by addition of Zinc stearte and polymetastyrene and curing is performed in high tubular furnace where the temperature ranges from 450 to 570 °C; the sintering time to be 12 to 15 h. The FGM dry specimens are then extensively characterized for their mechanical, micro structural and tribological properties. The plain and unbreakable surfaces reflect the strong bonding of the constituents which is investigated by SEM morphological images. The EDAX and XRD images to confront the validation of manufacturing process.
