Abstract

Experimental Hysteretic Behavior and Application of an Assembled Self-Centering Buckling-Restrained Brace

Highlights

  • Buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) are widely used as earthquakeprevention devices in engineering structures, as they solve the buckling problem of common braces under compression and possess significant energy-dissipation capacity

  • In the assembled SC buckling-restrained braced frame (ASCBRBF), the low stiffness at the point when the core plate yields was considered during the design phase, and V0 1⁄4 1,682 kN, which is identical with the value used in the buckling-restrained braced frames (BRBFs)

  • The results of the analysis indicate that the BRBF (T 1⁄4 0.77 s) was considerably more flexible than the ASCBRBF (T 1⁄4 0.65 s)

Summary

Introduction

Buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) are widely used as earthquakeprevention devices in engineering structures, as they solve the buckling problem of common braces under compression and possess significant energy-dissipation capacity. Four identical prestressed disk-spring groups are used to achieve a high resilience and metal yielding of the core plate for energy dissipation are adopted.
