Abstract

The mean total mammary DNA of mature normal and gonadectomized male rats was 3.99 and 3.85 mg/100 g body wt, respectively. Estradiol benzoate (EB) alone stimulated a slight but not significant increase in DNA in 20 days. When EB-stimulated rats were then injected with EB plus progesterone for 20 days, a highly significant increase in DNA was stimulated in comparison with that of gonadectomized control animals or those injected with EB alone.(Endocrinology 79: 650, 1966)
