Abstract

Different methods used for the analysis of Doppler shifted gamma-ray lines are compared via the determination of the lifetime of the 4.62 MeV (4 + level in 28Si. This level is excited using the 27Al(p, γ) reaction with E p = 767 keV and 1589 keV. The shape and shift of the gamma-ray due to the transition 4.62 MeV (4 + → 1.78 MeV (2 +) in 28 Si was measured. The best fit is obtained when discontinuous stopping for the recoiled ion is assumed.
