Abstract

In this present work, an attempt has been made to do the comparative experimental and theoretical evaluation of two identical double slope solar still (basin area) of 15° top cover inclination kept in an east–west direction. Modified double slope single basin solar still is augmented with the permanent ferrite magnet (for reducing the surface tension of the water), triangular prismatic metallic structure (for reducing characteristic length) and black cotton cloth (for enhancing the surface area). Experiments are carried out at the geographical condition of JUET, Guna (Latitude: 24°39’N, Longitude: 77°19’E, India). Theoretical evaluation of the experimental result is carried out with the help of Kumar and Tiwari model based on the regression analysis. An increase of 60.24% is observed in the daily distillate output of modified still. The evaporative heat transfer coefficient and the total heat transfer coefficient have improved by 54.15 and 42.93%, respectively.
