Abstract

Multigigabit optical transmission systems suffer from fiber chromatic dispersion. In coherent transmission systems, chromatic dispersion limitations depend on modulation-demodulation schemes.1 It is important to clarify receiver sensitivity degradation in coherent transmission systems. On the other hand, delay distortion by fiber chromatic dispersion can be compensated for by using electrical delay equalizers in optical heterodyne detection systems.2,3
