Abstract

Isotope labeling with deuterium (2D) supply to a polymer electrolyte fuel cell was applied to monitor 2D permeation process in accordance with proton conducting mechanism involved in the membrane by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which detected hydrogen (1H). It was shown that MRI signal intensity decreased at the anode, which indicated Grotthuss mechanism plays a dominant roll in proton conducting process in the membrane.
