Abstract

It is, in general, only possible to apply thermodynamic data to rocks in a quantitative way if the mixing properties of the natural, multi-component minerals, are known. For this reason there have been, in recent years, a considerable number of experimental and theoretical studies of the thermodynamic properties of mineral solid solutions (e.g. Thompson and Waldbaum, 1968; Orville, 1972; Nafziger, 1973).
