Abstract

The quadrupole interaction frequency e 2 qQ/ h of 186Ir in hexagonal Os has been determined by nuclear orientation as +175 (10) MHz. With the known electric field gradient of −3.00(17) × 10 17 V/cm 2 for Ir Os the spectroscopic quadrupole moment of 186Ir is deduced to be −2.41(20). This result confirm I π K = 5 +1 for the ground-state configuration of 186Ir.
